Food Triggers -
Migraine for Dessert
Or you are what you eat, even if you didn't know it was in there...
You try to eat right, but surprisingly what goes into some "healthy" food choices makes things worse.
What many people do not realize is that, often, they do things each day that trigger their migraine headaches.
One of the biggest migraine triggers for many people actually involves food. There are many foods that are known to trigger migraine headaches for a variety of reasons.
There are a variety of different foods that can act as triggers to migraines. There are a few trigger foods in every food group.
- In the vegetable food group some foods that may trigger migraines include olives, various beans and chili peppers.
- Dried fruits, bananas and avocados are foods in the fruit group that may bring on your migraine.
- Many bread products that contain yeast, especially when they are freshly baked, can be a trigger as well.
- Processed meats have also been linked to causing migraines because of the preservatives used in them. Such processed meats can include hotdogs, sausages and bacon.
- Alcoholic beverages, especially the red wines, can be triggers, as can any drink containing caffeine.
- Chocolate has been found to be a huge trigger as well.
- Many processed foods that contain the preservative MSG have been found to act as triggers as well.
If you are looking for a natural headache cure instead of using drugs to help your migraines you may want to consider doing an elimination diet or a food diary. An elimination diet can help you find your own natural headache cure.
To start an elimination diet, you will want to cut out all the foods that could potentially be a migraine trigger and then slowly add them back into your diet one by one. If your migraine headaches come back when you add a certain food, you can identify it as a trigger and totally eliminate that food from your diet.
Keeping a food diary can also help you find a natural headache cure as well. If you write down every single thing that you eat each day and also keep track of when you get your migraine headaches, you may be able to trace the headache to a certain food that you ate that day. Once you find the food that is a trigger you can abstain from eating it and reduce the frequency of your migraine headaches.
While food is one of the big triggers for migraine headaches, you will need to remember that it is not the only one.
Often, emotional stress, hormones, medications and even lack of sleep can contribute to the frequency of migraines. While food is only one of these triggers, finding and eliminating food triggers can significantly reduce the frequency and intensity of your migraines.
So, before you eat that huge slice of chocolate cake you may want to consider what the consequences will be.
Did you know?
Hidden food additives may be at the root of your problems.
- I thought all ingredients had to be listed on the food labels?... you say.
Not SO!
The food manfacturers regularly "disguise" problem ingredients on food labels.
Total Headache Relief takes the mystery out of food labeling and teaches you how to identify and avoid these hidden mines on the dietary battle field.
